John R. Irvin, Drevel, Missouri, USA, may have found an all-tackle record close to home while fishing the City Lake where he landed a yellow bullhead (Ameiurus natalis) in 20 minutes, weighing 2.89 kg (6 lb 6 oz). The current record is 4 lb 15 oz caught October 12, 2003, from the Ogeechee River in Georgia, USA.

as to what states wv,oh, and some others, but the lengths are not used for the records but they are recorded

wow i think i caught a world and state record, the one i caught was 7lbs even according to my scale

Unless you got it officially weighed, saved the line, had witnesses, and a picture or film to positively ID it from the other bullhead species plus any other IGFA rules I forget....you got a fish tale.

Are you sure it was a yellow?

I found a 2006 report of 3 caught in Missouri that exceeded 6 pounds each, one at 6 lb 3 oz, and a 5 lb. 15 oz one 3 years previous.

My buddy caught a monster bullhead on a 6" hard plastic jerk bait (you know it was big if it ate that) and we let it go not thinking it could have possibly been a record.
