Yellow fin boreleyi

hi all this is my first post :headbang2 i just started my first cichlid tank ( 40 gAL) with a few yellow fin. my question is one has turned almost black is this normal. the tank has had other fish in is for about a year but i have relocated them, also i have a UGF and a emporer 280 with biowheel. the fish r behaving normal but the colors r changing almost daily. thx

Probably a dominant male
 
From what i have read of the borleyi.... it is the female who is dark. almost black with red or yellow fins... . and the males get brightly colored.. so it sounds like you have more males.. could you put up picture.,love to see them.
 
Yeah, it is pretty weird to watch your fish change color, but yes, Africans do change. I have some that will change from week to week. These fish can change right in front of your eyes. (see photos )

Thats nice the way you captured the color change of the same fish in pictures..
