st.thomas us virgin islands
i have a 4600 gallon koi pond which gets full sun most of the day and had to change the water this week and already the yellow green algae is blooming we have floating plants that have to be thinned constantly which generate alot of debris but provide shade .considering algae eating fish i have a couple of 15 " pecostumis i could tranfer from an indoor aquarium. but they are part of the tanks best features maybe i should just buy a bunch of little ones and let them have at it what do you think, looking for a nonchemical solution in the virgin islands thanks.

Green water, or algae on walls of pond?

Plants, plants, plants and more plants. They use up extra nutrients and compete w/algae.

How many Koi and what kind of filter are you running.

a uv filter seems to be the best option from what i have researched and i am adding 24 juvenal pecostomus on thursday when they arrive on american airlines i did not have to buy a seat for each one, there was some grumbleing in the crowd however.

So it is green water then right????

If you have a lot of dead plant material you are just feeding the algae. As the plecos grow they will only add to the problem with the amount of waste they will produce.

What kind of filter are u using?
