I have no experience breeding fish. I need to know how I should go about handling my female. How long will it take for the eggs to hatch. when they hatch how should I get the fry from her. should I seperate her when they hatch.

congratulations .. :) :D :)

normally if u did not do any thing she ll hold them for nearly 3 to 4 weeks >> that does not mean that they ll be eggs for the 3 weeks no they ll hatch in her mouth and live inside there until they became strong enough to face life .. that all was to protect the species in the african lakes due to ferocious life there ..

but

u do not need that at all first if u ganna leave her as her well then move her to a tank alone or use a separate and keep her alone as she ll not eat all that period sp she ll be so weak and males or other tank mates ll attack her or hit her .. so safely remove here to be alone

or ...

u can get the fry out of her mouth .. but that is not safe as long as u r not experienced with it .. ( how u gonna be experienced any way unless u try ;) )

here u are some videos about how to get fry out of her mouth

yeah so easy ... just make sure u have a group not least than 6 .. as each male can mate with 6 to 8 females

Temperature:23-28oC (73-82oF) Water chemistry:Hard and alkaline: pH 7.6-8.6 ; GH 7 plus ; KH 10-12 ideally, but at least 5-6.
These fish mouth brood but, unlike most other mouth brooding Malawians, the brooding females rarely feel threatened by conspecifics and can thus stay in the display tank. Fry from the electric yellow morph, once spit by the female, should be fed baby brine shrimp for the first month or two. (This helps give the carotene necessary to keeping that yellow coloration.)

According to a report by SCHEUERMANN (1974) in Das Aquarium 8, 439-441: the young leave the mouth of the mother after 40 days at 23-24° C (73-75° F) or after 25 days at 27-28° C (81-82° F). The mother continues to care for the young for about a week after they leave her mouth.

where they hard to breed?
no I used malawi buffer and cichlid lake salt then me and my buddies went to his farm and got a bunch of slate rock and I made a double layer cave system and it instanlty triggered my male to breed I came home that evening and she is holding eggs.

I only have 3 1 male and 2 female they are wild caught so they were expensive If I take the female out how long should I wait to do it. should the eggs be fertalized already.

It was very helpful to have an example of how to strip fry from the mother. I have been letting them be released naturally but that takes much longer. I will try this and see how it works. I am relatively new to the hobby but got into it in a big way. I already have over 200 fry and about 6 females holding. I am going to run out of tank space unless I spped up the process so this should help. thanks
