i have 2 yellow labs, the one is about 2 1/2 -3 inch long. most of the time there is very little black on it and then about once or twice every week it gets more black on the top and lower fins. so i am not sure what sex it is. i bought a second yellow lab it has alot of black on the top fin. it is only about a 1in to 1 1/2 big right now. what i want to know is what sex is the larger one and why does it get more black every once in a whilt. the larger lab has not bothered the smaller one at all. i would love to post pics but i cant get them clear at all but i will try to get some up for u guys. please help i am really trying to get a pair of them

a update on the larger lab. it is garding my sponge filter very well. it will not let and fish near it at all. also it is putting its belly up against the sponger filter also
There is a lot of variability in yellow labs. The only way to sex them for sure is by venting. Here's a pic of one of my males and his bichir buddy;
top looks to be a female and the other looks like he might just start to be gettin some black, is there black on the bottom fins or no, cause all my males have black bottom fins
the lager one has black on the lower fins that comes and goes and the smaller one has very lil but it is still a juvinelle
venting is the only sure way, many people can speculate on how to tell, but the ideas that have been presented have always been shot down by another owner whose labs break that rule. Venting is best!
