I have just recently bred them and it took about three weeks before she released them into the tank. If she is by herself then sometimes she will release them sooner. I have about a dozen fry left out of the 15 she released last month. If she is in a tank with other fish you can catch her after two weeks of holding and strip her of the fry.

I have a female that is carring eggs/fry at the moment. How long will she hold them before releasing them into the tank? She has been carrying them for about a week and a half.

Holding time depends on the water temp. Warmer water means less time. Labidachromis generally hold for between 15 and 21 days. My advice is to seperate her into a well aerated and quiet nursery tank that is kept at the lower end of her preferred temperature range. Cooler water has more dissolved oxygen that will be available to her eggs that will also have a reduced need for it at cooler temps. This increases the survival rate.

The trade off is cooler water, more healthy fry, but Mama holds longer than when temperatures are higher. The choice is yours............:D

Mine usually take about 35 days before they finally spit them out. Of course you could always remove them yourself, but it's kind of a pain in the neck.
