I have caught yellow perch before but they don't look like the yellow perch I see on the internet.

I can assure yo that they are yellow perch by the markings but the shape of the fish are slightly different.

I have found 2 species that closely resemble the yellow perch I caught but neither of them have the right shape.

Perca fluviatilis and Perca flavescens. Are they synonyms?? I have found that perca flavescens looks more torpedo shaped on the internet and Perca fluviatilis looks more like a "fat goldfish" shape

Perca fluviatilis and Perca flavescens. Are they synonyms??

The simple fact that the two fishes are different species automatically means they are not synonymous.

Flavescens is North American, Fluviatilus is European

ah, thank you. I was reading the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries site and they were saying how yellow perch were important and they said that flavescens and fluviatilus were both in Massachusetts' waters and are generally considered to be 1 varying species...

But they don't know too much about fish except how to catch them. They say that you can keep a trout at 85F if well oxygenated.... Hell, not even an oscar would live very long in those temps....

fat goldfish shape ... torpeado shaped .. genecticly phucked from polution ..
