Anybody here have any of these? I recently caught about a dozen ice fishing, they were to small to clean so I brought them home and put them in my 70. Within a week they were eating Hikari gold from the surface like hogs. I've already moved 4 of them into my 220 cause they fattened up and grew so much in just a little over a month. I've had many natives before, but never perch. They are really cool, I love them!!! I was wondering if anyone else here has them and how big I can expect them to get in a 220gal tank. Thanks for your help.

I had perch at one time in a 125 gallon. They are really cool and will eat just about anything. I had one that started as pike bait, about 4" and grew to about 10" after a few years.

Perch are great natives to keep, mine are around 8-9" and will eat anything that i throw in to the tank and they stay together in a school, i have 9 of them and i'm going to see if i can get them to breed this year.

how are you gonna try to get them to breed? any tricks? water temps? more/less food?

All my panfish are going into 1100gl indoor pond while the bigger guys go into the other 1100gl pond, i know that i will have enough space for them to swim but i also know that it will that time for me to try to get these guys to breed and that i might have to keep them seperated from the other panfish, but i can try for now and see what happens.

Give them some sort of plants to spawn on. They lay eggs in strips that are sticky and usually attach to plants, fyke nets, etc.
Some sort of moss should work for breeding. (possibly java moss) I know a guy who caught a couple when they were 4-5 inches and they over time ended up being 11 and 14 inches. I remember he put 20 emerald shiners in and they ate them up like it was nothing then he said they wern't done yet and proceeded to feed them nightcrawlers. The big one at 2 and the littler one ate one. After that they layed on the botton like stuffed turkeys! haha Good luck with them, perch are alot of fun to keep. If you keep them in your 220 over time they could possibly get even bigger than that. Your perch should live quite along time and with addiquit food and clean water have the potential to be monsters! 15-16 inches, but it will be a while 6years+.
