a friend ask me about setting up a wet/dry last week so i gave him the basics

i use bio-balls in my w/d but i told him alot of like pot scrubbers from the $tore

so today he calls and tells me i screwed up his tank so i go take a look

tanks really green and he's already done 2x 50% W/C's

in the W/D theres no pot scrubbers but a bunch of yellow sponges

we started taking them out and they are falling apart after only a few days

he said the pot scrubbers cost 6/$1 and the yellow sponges 12/$1 so obviously he would be a dumb ass if he went with the PS's

all his fish made it

i dont know what yellow sponges are made of but it aint good

they fall apart during use even when used on cleaning dishes. what made that kid think it would be good for filtration? big mistake and luckily all his fish made it. tell that kid "i told you to get pot scrubbers" and be thankful nothing died.

" I told you so " seems to fit here. Feel free to use it with him at some point.

Has he replaced it with scrubbies yet/

Also rinse everything first...I'm not sure he would know to do this either. :grinno:

Please tell me it was an adult so you can punish him for a long time.,, :D

I am sure the sponges would be good bio media if they didn't fall apart, and i am sure they are made of urethane. Probably not good considering that. Better to follow an experienced fishkeepers advice, like yours.
