I unfortunately live in a state where I can't keep the fw ones does anyone keep the yellow spotted ray or blue spotted rays? I have heard the blue spotted rays can be pretty trickey to get acclimated and that the yellow spotted rays seem to fair better in captivity. I would love to see pictures of your set ups. I believe I can keep the sw rays here in Georgia. I have seen a local pet store selling the yellow spotted rays before.

John

I keep one of each and zoodiver keeps the yellows. You are right about the Bluespotted ones, it took alot of time with mine before she ate on her own, after that she has done well up till lately, seems to have lost some weight so I am feeding twice a day as much as she wants. The yellow one i have was a little tough to but might have been my acclimation procedure. The California Rounds are by far easier in my opinion to adjust to captivity.

Its been long since I have kept any sw fish. Last time I kept them it was in the late 80s or early 90s. When you first get a ray how long do you place it in tank while its still in the bag to acclimate it to the water temps? Also how much could I expect to pay for a 180 gallon to 200 gallon tank?

thanks,
John

you need to more than acclimate it to the temp., it needs to be acclimated (drip method) to your water for 3 hours I would say, I've done less time but i believe that has caused problem and even death. jabba here on the site has a good acclimating procedure somewhere here and I will try and find it for you if you want.

I always thought the acclimatization method used depended on how long they spent in the bag. I read a study on how if the fish are shipped the ammonia in the bag doe snot start working until exposed to air and other elements. It made a pretty convincing argument on what procedure to use and when. I am very curious about if you get sensitive fish from the fish store how long and what size tub people drip in to. I currently use a 30 gallon tank and drip for around an hour.

i always drip acclimate my sharks in a separate tank to me its the only way.
