Well i recently found a local guy with RTM. He had them in the local regina fish show. I asked him if it was a RTM but he said it was a yellow strain of the of motaguenese. I think he knows his stuff as he is the president of the local aquarium society so, is there a yellow strain? I was hoping for the red strain but if this is what he has im going to go for it and buy 6 and pair them off. Whats your take on this?

Actually yellow (some may have a green hue also) was the original color of motaguense. the red tiger is a captive bred form. Oh If you want them get them great fish either way.

There are different color variations for all the Parachromis depending on where they're from. There is a gold strain of motaguense. This is probably what he's talking about.

Red Tiger Motaguense is a pure Parachromis motaguense. It's not a hybrid (not that you said it was, just trying to avoid confusion). I don't think you could make it if it wasn't already in there somewhere. Line bred for color may be a better description.

Still I'm pretty sure the red variant is a natural occurring colour strain.

Yes. It's very definitely a naturally occurring race of Mot.

Hmm.. im not sure if i want them anymore. I'd prefer the RTM, is there any difference in temperment between the color variations? What makes a RTM turn into a gold form? Is this just an over bred form, if so i don't think id want it then.

Gold and Red are both naturally occuring color variations of motaguense. There's nothing wrong with the golds, it's just that the reds are more popular. I like them all. Temperament is better determined by individual fishes rather what kind of Parachromis. Suffice it to say that all the Parachromis species can be stone cold killers. Or not. It just depends on the individual fish. Just like people.
