hi guys. i have a 100 gal tank with 2 7-8 inch red bellied p's and 6 pacus. i am using a single eheim 2080 for filtration. why is my water yellowish in color? how do i remedy this?

thanks in advance

do you have any driftwood in your tank?

Typically, it is from dissolved organics in the water or tannic acids from driftwood. Do you use carbon in your filter? If not, you should and if the problem persists, you should upgrade to a larger filter. Oh yeah, do a 25-50% water change and vacuum all the gravel thoroughly.

Water yellows between water changes because of waste, tannins, etc. Sounds like your bioload is too large or you don't change enough water.

I don't think he needs to upgrade from a 2080 on a 100 gallon. They are very big, and great at bio-filtration.

Sorry. I don't know much about canister filters. I am more of a power filter person. I was just making a suggestion because that is alot of fish. Maybe extra carbon would help? Maybe a Bio Wheel Pro 60 hooked to your eheim? I would suggest the water changes along with new carbon. Is your filter pumping correctly?:)

sorry if this is off topic but what the hell are you gonna do with 6 pacus?!

i dont really know what to do with them specially when they get a bit bigger. i might move them to a small pond.
