I acquired a 12" red pike a couple of months ago and have him in a planted 125.

I'm really hooked on this guy, What would you recommend as a tank mate that wouldn't pick on the pike or bulldoze the plants ?

Nothing nicer than this pike gliding through the jungle val and driftwood.
I have a dat Id like to place in the tank however he's a little too small yet 6" tops.

If you can pick up some geophagus that are too large to be eaten, they make great tankmates. I have also mixed severum very successfully with a large venezuelan. And of course my gars :).

I have some Geo Surinamsis however they are in the grow out phase under 4". also have a 10" G Sev and pacu sized red hooks.. However I was worried about the plants being uprooted by the Geo's and the Sev eating them down to the roots.. Your pike never bothered your dat? did your dat harass the pike? interesting.......I assumed even tho my pike eats pellets and krill, he does have quite a large mouth. ??

Never had any issue either way between the pikes and dats.

I had a heavily planted SA biotope tank a couple years ago, with 3 breeding pairs of brasiliensis, and they never uprooted any of the plants. Didn't have a severum in that tank, so I can't say as to whether they'd eat the plants or not.

I actually have not had an issue with my pikes eating smaller (obviously edible sized) tankmates. My two vennies right now are large enough to eat a pair of bellycrawlers, 2 different senegal bichirs, and a small rainbow cichlid also in the tank. They completely ignore them, and only get excited for pellet food. That doesn't mean YOURS wouldn't eat the smaller fish, of course.
