whats the heaviest sand thats aquarium safe--is blasting sand good i hear its very heavy

I wouldn't know the heaviest, but, I am in the process of exchanging my substrate and am using pool filter sand. I have put in 200 lbs so far (just started four days ago) and not for one moment has my water been cloudy. The pool filter sand just sank right to the bottom and that was that. Of course, I cleaned it thoroughly first - which almost certainly contributed to my lack of cloudiness.

You may have read the blasting sand thing on my 125 gallon thread... the blasting sand I use is very heavy. I have only used one brand though...

I think we shuold do a sticky called- Pool Filter Sand-Buy it, rinse it, put it in your aquarium cuz it looks good and is cheap and easy lol. I have black moon sand and is very light. I also have PFS and I can almost vacuum that like regular gravel. No clue about blasting sand, but you can't go wrong with pfs

Im using Home Depot's Quickqrete play sand. Its very thin, but I don't have a filter intake near the bottom. I actually think it looks very natural. Theres sand and different sized/color stones in there as well. Only thing I didn't like was that I had to wash and keep washing the sand.

pool filter sand is the way to go
