I finally got my fire eel to regularly eat raw shrimp! He ate his first piece last week, but I thought it was a fluke so I didn't get too excited. However, he is now eating it every feeding, along with his usual diet of live earthworms and crayfish.

My hubby couldn't understand why I was dancing out of the fishroom today, but I figured other MFKs would understand!
:D

Nice, my new little one is currently only eating frozen bloodworms, and only at night when nobody is watching.

I just got my first eel and I've been reading around about people wanting to get their eel eating shrimp. What is the deal with this. Make them get bigger or better for their health?

Thanks in advance.

i feed mine shrimp...it all comes down to GREENBACKS...when you have many large fish all other food is alot of money, but with shrimp and fish fillets you can buy alot on sale and feed your fish for less...also live can have ilnesses were market foods don't...

I bout mine when it was already large, probably 10 inches or so...(only 15 bucks!) It wouldn't eat for weeks, tried shrimp, live worms, pellets, feeders, etc.

Finally I tried some cheap squid legs and he INSTANTLY ate them. I bought a lot of these and keep them in the freezer. I feed him every few days with a handful of these, and he comes to the top and eats out of my hand. He even nips my finger sometimes when hes hungry :o

lucky you i wish mine would its been along time and alot of bloodworms :( ill keep trying though.
