I read a couple post of where some people have feed their fish worms (from outside ground), so I just decided to try and see what happens about 5 minutes ago.

 I dug and found a small worm, not very big. It was big enough to be used for bluegill bait. Well anyways I'll quit rambling. I washed it off and dropped the worm in my tank. The baby firemouth pecked at some and my catfish was too busy going nuts after I approached the tank to notice it. It burrowed down into my gravel after some pecks from my firemouth. I kept an eye on where it went just incase I'll need to get it out.

It was completely buried for about a minute when my ornate started to perk up and sniff around like a bloodhound on a trail. It dug into the gravel head first and he found a nice feast of worm. My bichir looked like it had a smile on its face:) and loved to eat its tasty treat.

These guys are extremely fun to watch hunt and kill prey. :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

yeah, I didn't have to worry about digging it back out of the gravel. My ornate sniffed around for awhile and "boom!!" nose dived into the gravel chomping up the worm.

worms are some of the funnest things to watch being eaten IMO(sounds kinda warped lol). My little fish that can't swallow them swim around with them hanging out of their mouths while the others chase them around the tank and try to tear it in half. They are also a very healthy meal for fishh too, which makes it even better.

LoL I know what you mean. I have always liked to watch this kind of stuff.

haha right on, love feeding mine worms, can't wait until they come back in the summer. I sometimes put them in whole to let the fight over the big ones (nunchuks!) or in half because they'll still move anyways, they get right excited. Although last summer I didn't have much gravel in the tank, now I've got sand but was weary of them digging drowning and rotting. It's great that you posted that, i'm stoked!
great growth with worms btw, the broken down minerals in the worms make them a great source of protein and everything else.
-this is considered wrong, but, when it's raining and birds are pulling out lots of worms, clap to scare them, steal worm. maybe throw the bird some bread after to even things out.

Or see if you can catch a bird for your larger fish. LOL

thats cool, ive always wanted to go dig for some woms to give to my bichir, ill try that soon.

The ground here will be frozen for a while longer :irked: ....but in a month or so it's worm season again! Wait, don't tell me, no frozen ground where you guys are from?
