Hi all,

First post and i hope i put it in the proper place. I have recently gotten back into the hobby and i'm looking to build a new tank. Roughly 12x12x60 out of acrylic. I would like to make it rimless if possible. Is this realistic using acrylic? I just built a 15 gallon rimless tank to get my feet wet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check out this build. Yours would be one foot shorter.

If the acrylic thick enough then I don't see any reason it would need braces.

I guess it depends on what you mean by rimless. Do you want a tank that has no black rim around the top and bottom or do you want a tank with a completely open top that has no braces?

Thank you very much for the post. I want, in quotes, to have it complete without braces at all. I think i will just go for some extra thick acrylic.

I think that is how Joey did it in his video above, no top bracing at all.

I would think that you'd want to use 3/4" acrylic like he did if you want to go that route. It's probably going to be pretty expensive to buy a sheet of that though.

Thanks for the help guys. I found a clear cast dealer two minutes from my house. They have a 1/2" 4x8 sheet for 208.00 and 3/4" for 302. I think im going with the 3/4 to play it safe
