I just got 11 CL's ranging from 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches in my 75g tank. Im aware thats very small but there are none around here any larger. My tank is at a constant 80.6 degrees with 4 emp 280's for filtration and im doing 15% daily water changes. Feeding Hikari carnivore pellets HBH veggie wafers and HBH super soft red top and green top and frozen mosquto larvae. Haven't noticed if any of them have skinny disease and there all eating and have good color. Any tips or tricks to help boost there growth and get nice and fat ? Any other things to keep em happy I need to be doing that im missing? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Any critscism is also welcome. :)

Sounds good so far. They are slow growers and there isn't much you can do about it, besides water changes and variety in diet. I try and feed my group 3 times a day, instead of just giving them a lot of food once a day. You might want to eventually start working in frozen market shrimp to boost growth, break it up in smaller pieces and they will tear it up. Also, a bigger tank will help as well. They will eventually need something larger anyways.

Thanks for the plug, Bret. Read that, but the key is varied diet. My favorite bulking foods are Mussels, Zucchini, and Bloodworms.

Just went out and got some zuchini for them. I figure some of them have skinny disease but I have some gel tek px on hand. I was going to soak some carnivore pellets in it and feed them that for several days to hopefully get rid of anything they might have. I used the same method on my natives and it worked like a charm. As to the room issue I have a 125 sitting around for whenever they grow a little bigger. Read the loach blog btw great info. I looked at some mussels in the sea food section and good lord there pricey! 7 bucks for a tiny can. Anyway thanks for the info and responses. I know its a risk getting CL's this small but it's all that was available around here. :(
Hopefully I can get them grown up into big fat loaches without having any deaders. I know the "skinny disease" is intestinal parasites but can it spread from one loach to another? I have a couple of loaches ive had for a couple months and there growing and are nice and fat and I dont want them to get anything from the others. Btw my loaches like mosquito larva but spit out frozen bloodworms. :screwy:

Get the frozen green mussels at an Asian food store. A large box costs $12. That's enough for 3-4 months.

I have never had any problems with a loach spreading the "skinny" disease. I have taken a chance on a couple, because I liked their pattern. Some made it, some didn't, but it never harmed any of my other loaches.

Levamisole hydrochloride is another alternative.

A good waterflow in the tank helps them grow too..... Plus I think they like it.
