Sorry to bring up this topic again. On my 220 I kind of made a mistake. It's been set up for going on 3 weeks now. I never monitored that water which is so unlike me. I started with 50 feeders and 12 convicts. A filter element from a very established 300 Gal. Last week I added 6 Raphael cats (spelling?)
I am getting ready to place my order for my main fish. I checked the water. 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates. Nothing that I could recognize on the "table" or "chart" anyway. Perfect water infact. or as close to perfect as possible.
I forgot also that I started my FX5 with chemipure elite in the number one chamber. I have a 300Gal aquaclear with an 1800gph pump.
Shoud I shut off the FX5 for a little bit and/or remove the Chemipure?
I have lost around 15 feeders that would've died anyway. Of course I tried to keep everything alive. (besides not changing the water once :( )
This is way off how I normally wouldve done things so just looking for a little input. The fish I will be getting are somewhat rare and I do not want to take a chance of losing one. Yet I am impatient by nature (recognizing is the first step, but I am not ready for the second) and want to put in my order. Wait a bit or go for it? I am pretty confident in my abilities to get things back under control if they get out of wack. Just as I said before a little wary because I did things so differently than normal. BTW I way over fed the fish on purpose to try and get things going. I am actually still over feeding them now.

Hmmm, was just thinking about something else I haven't done before. What if I added a bit ammonia and see if the level drops rapidly? If so, what would be a safe amount to put in? I am kind of freaked about this idea lol, but it is a thought.

well you should not be detecting zero nitrate might suggest your removing to much of the bio load in water changes or something is removing it before the tank bacteria can use it and convert it .try removing everything but mech and bio media and reduce water changes until you detect all 3 prams then wait till you only detect nitrate and do a large water change before you add the fish.

Maybe it is the Chemi pure elite? Haven't done any water changes yet, and sorry I have to make a correction. I haven;t checked nitrates. I didn't have time to wait when I was checking. PH Amm and nitrite. I ill check Nitrate when I get home. Sorry about that.

Last night test came out 0 ammonia, 0 nitrie, and I estimate 15 Nitrate (between 10-20 somewhere). I assume everything is going ok. I also have the first algae bloom which I assume s from the elevated Nitrate lvls. If I am not mistaken the Nitrate is ok if it is under 40ish? So I will leave my filtration alone and see what happens...... hmmm or does anyone think I shoudl consider taking out the chemipure-elite???
