Please bear with me, I know these questions get old. I have used the calculators and tried to do my research. I am just starting a 96" x 30" x 34" tank (outside dimensions of the plywood box). I went to order a piece of glass 90" x 32". 1/2" (untempered) is $250.00. 3/4" is $810.00 ( I can only find one glass supplier out of four around here who can even get it). I had figured $600.00 or less would fit in my budget and was hoping to get it for that. If so I had planned to just use 3/4 to be on safe side. I am now back to looking at 1/2"

The tank will have 3 cross braces on top (stainless steel rods) at 2 ft intervals with a water depth of 30". I would much prefer to go with one continuous sheet of glass but would compromise with two windows and a center brace if I really have to.

I know if I just ask for opinions I am probably going to get some who say 1/2 is OK and some who think it is a little risky (opinions are still welcome). My question is whether anyone here actually has a tank with a 1/2 inch continuous glass window this size and how well and for how long it has worked. Thanks.

My 115 has 1/2" glass and it's only 5 ft long and 24" deep. I would think you will need more. My 1000 has 1 1/2" acrylic. According to you measurements you have 423 gallons of water and that weighs about 3628 pounds. (minus the thickness of the tank) Thats a lot of weight on 1/2" glass. I'm not saying it won't work but better safe than sorry. Good luck!

Yes. I have no idea how I did it. My humble apologies. I am a computer idiot. I was just looking to try figure out how to delete one. I wouldn't even own a d**m computer except they are useful for a few things like this forum. (I wouldn't mind blowing up every cell phone in the country either). It's great being a grumpy old man (except Ann Margaret never comes around). How do I delete one of these? Or can I?

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid I would hear that. Did I mess up my volume measurement too? I was figuring about 330 gallons for actual water volume of 93" x 27" x 30" (l x w x h).

Your measurements are correct, I figured you outside measurements. Thats all I had to go by.

actually assuming that u are using bulkheads as long as the water line cannot go any higher then 30" then 1/2" will be fine. are u sure your 115 aint outta 10mm(3/8) intead of 12mm(1/2")
