Yet another "help me sex my Green Terror" thread... :-)

Help! I am a newish cichlid keeper and would like to be able to find a mate for the one and only Green Terror that I currently have. My suspicion is that it is a female, but I would love to have some of your expert opinions. I have been avoiding taking her out of the tank for venting to minimize stress.

Wow! See, this is why us newbies need these boards, I would have been certain he was a she!! I don't see any trace of a nuchal hump, her cheeks are very colorful and there is no orange on the tail... so what are the male "traits" that I am missing?

Ok, first I’m gonna go the other way and say female, due to the torpedo shaped non sloped head rounded fins, and non prominent coloring in the tail. Males tend to have high sloping heads and females more long and slender. It’s always nice when people give their reasons for thinking one way or the other.

Secondly your fish will never have orange in its tail. Rivulatus come in two varieties, “gold”(orange) and “silver” (white). Yours is the latter or at least by this picture that is my guess.

I’m by no means a Rivulatus is expert. So I’m sure some one else will chime in.

OK then...I will sit back and wait for consensus I guess...currently 2:1 male

In it's fins I see a spangaling going on. Male have this where as females have no spangles in its fins.

Here is my girl Hotlipz


See in her dorsal, anal, and tail fin there are no shiny blue spangles.

But ya cute little boy you got and a White Saum to boot.

Ok... I definitely see the spangles on mine...and if they don't usually occur on females, then that would seem like a strong vote for male
