After seeing these in the AquariumDesignGroup/ADG showroom display tank I went searching for some but looks like I got a slightly different variant but lucky me the one I got has some controversy about the actual collection point or variant.

If anyone can list the differences it would really helpful. Thanks in advance.

G. Stergiosi / G. Geayi

Here's a vid cause I am stuck using my phone for pics/vids.

G. geayi don't have a midlateral spot, only the bar. They also don't have the black lappets on the dorsal fin, though juvys will have it, they fade as the fish gets older.

These guys look small enough to still have it, but the they are clearly showing the midlateral spot so they are not G. geayi. G. stergiosi start with a midlateral bar but it fades as they get older. If the black lappets on the dorsal stay and the bar disappears to just the midlateral spot, then yes they should be G. stergiosi.

In Guianacara, the differences all have to do with the midlateral spot, midlateral bar, and those black lappets.

Thanks for chiming in!
I have one that has a faded black lappet... it happens to be one of the larger/dominant ones. If that fades out completely what other variant could it be?

Btw these were sold as Geophagus Geayi.
