Ok, so I popped into a Local pet store this week and came across these all the way in the back of the store. There were about 30 of them for sale.

I know I have seen them before, but not positive of thier ID. With that, I left and came back later in the day and bought a trio.

Unfortunately I lost one in my filter....Damn Oceanic tanks are known to suck up fish by them going over the top of the canister.

Anyway I still have the pair and after some new construction altered the filter so none can go over the falls!

But...back to the ID. They are docile, but have hearty appetites. They haven't bothered anything the tank so far and also have great personalities. No fear at all.

They were $9 bucks each, so I am certain I didn't overpay for them...but again the question. What are they?

I would have to say Venezuelan.

Thanks...for the price of 9 each, does anyone know if that is a good deal or is that abut right?

Definitely Cr. sp. 'venezuela', $9 is a good price, thats what we sell them for. Not exactly what you would term as a gorgeous pike as adults, but they are easy to take care of and still look attractive as adults.

Apparently easy to catch in the wild as well cuz they are one of the most imported pikes available.

Thanks Peanut...I was hoping I came across something a little more rare, but still happy with them.

Does anyone here have any experience breeding them? Would love some feedback.

nice pick up. definitely a sp. venezuelan. from what ive heard breeding any lugubris pikes is quite difficult, but that doesn't mean its impossible. first step is to get a pair out of the three you got.
