They are bring sold at a local LFS as Hystrix, but to me they look Retic all the way. I don't think there will be too much debate on this one, but lets see.

humerosa type.....color is too light for retics.....

Nice long tails! They don't look too skinny either. Reach in the tank when you are there and feel the top of them. Rough=humerosa, smooth=orbigyni.

Really? I didn't know thats how you could tell the difference. I just asked a question on how to differentiate between the two.

I guess you can't tell by pictures.

How big do the humerosa or orbignyi get? I thought the orbignyi stayed smaller, does the humerosa too?

They do look very healthy and active, and a few of them did have nice long tails. I am going to go there today and talk to the owner to see if he has any more info on them i.e. where they were imported from and what they are eating right now.

Do they get much bigger than retics?

bout the same.........

Thanks Nic....Do those two species have the same high mortality rate as the Retics or are they somewhat easier to raise to adulthood? There is not much information to be had on the internet or in books about those two species.

If anyone has mature specimens of either P. humerosa or P. orbignyi and has pics they can share, it would be appreciated.

retics are usually harder same with humerosa and orbigyna rays cause wholesellers get them cheap and sell them cheap....they are not cared for like motoros or other more expensive rays..... if you had a separate tank to acclimate it to and preferred barebottom(easier to see feeding) with a lil tlc the rays will be good..... TLC is the main thing with all rays....

I don't know their age, but they are approx. 4-5" disc width.

I am going to be keeping rays only...no other fish in the tank. The owner of the LFS fed them for me while I was there and they were eating frozen bloodworms pretty aggressively, so I suppose they are acclimating well. They have only been at this store for about a week. No idea how long the wholesaler had them....probably not too long.
