I got my chain pickeral off by feeding him goldfish, then starving him, then feeding krill. I think the fact that both are orange probably helped. The poor guy got really skinny in the process and I felt bad for him, but he eats krill, massivore, and jumbo carnisticks with a passion now. It also helps if you can throw the food into a current. The movement seems to help.

starve them and toss a silverside next to the powerhead or nose down to imitate darting action

I've never had an issue pulling any esox off live though I will say they can be more stubborn than other types of fish especially if they are wild caught

wish i had a tank for a pike but o well will stick to the smaller esox for now
