A story that I am embarrassed to tell, but it was the first lesson I learned.
As with many little girls, when I was 8 I had a fascination with mermaids.
My mother was away on vacation with and Aunt of mine, so I was staying at their house with a cousin of mine. One day we decided it would be fun to try to BE like mermaids.
We went outside, took some of my aunts bigger Japanese Koi out of the main pond into the grow out temporary container. From here, we proceeded to drag the container across the garden and tip it into the swimming pool.
Things were going swimmingly (pun intended) for a short period of time. Suddenly we started to notice that the fish friends we were trying to make being mermaids started to go belly up.
It wasn't long till all were floaters.
My lesson learned, you cannot swim with fish in the pool.
Also, fish are expensive and when you do that you get into the world of trouble.
