My wife purchased 5 bolivan rams (2 from one LFS and 3 from another about 3 months ago) I noticed 2 of them had paired off about a week ago. We came home from work day before yesterday and there they were still spawning. It's been 2 full days and the eggs look fertile and the parents are ruthless in keeping the other fish away. They are even picking up the panda corys and escorting them out of the area. Any suggestions are welcome.

Rams are cool!

Great pics :) You are so lucky that yours spawned for you so quickly. I have had mine in a tank together for 6 months and they haven't paired up yet. Good luck with the eggs!

tthats awesome i would like to see one pick up a corie that would be awesome

I don't know if you've bred rams before but most rams don't have any fry live until the 6th or 7th spawn. Sometimes it goes much higher than that. Good luck!

Hi Ron... Congrats to you and your wife.. Fins are crossed that you end up with fry... sounds like they are being very good parents.. Usually it takes a few tries but hopefully these will be lucky for you. Sue:D:D

Thanks Sue! Unfortunatly, we woke up this morning and all the eggs were gone. Not sure who got them but the parents are still busy guarding the area. We're going to separate this pair into their own 20 gal long with no tank mates. IMO, there was just too much action in the tank to be successful.

lol love these little guys! hopefully they keep breeding for you..

I agree with WildCAught ... they are guarding for a reason. A lot of times bolivians will cover the eggs with sand like their larger Geophagus cousins, or they might have have hatched (4 days would be about right) and moved the wigglers out of sight.
