It looks as if it was kept in a small tank for awhile, and it grew out that way....Poor little guy!!!

it's rare,(of course) it's deformed. poor guy. now if all the frys grew to be like this then i believe it maybe just a bad gene. this looks like an injury to me.
 
I agree with snogard. Looks like a possible injury due to an injury in the vertebrae or intermuscular bones. Some one once told me that they often occur during flight or whe na specimen is kept in really small tanks. I am sure it could happen for other reasons as well.
 
I can't believe someone would actually try to make a profit off of that poor guy!! And to "create" a species to cover up obvious poor care, is just beyond me!! If he would have cared for this guy better, and given him plenty of swimming space, it probably never would have developed "humpback", which is directly related to that! But to write off this condition as a species - ass!!

i sell on aquabid a lot, these are the people that make me and all the others that sell nice fish look bad. and that poor "little" guy is 13"... i wonder how long its been like that. feel bad for the sucker that buys it.
