You guys want to see a Sea Monster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That thing is crazy looking! What did you do with it?

We kept about 7 of them, cleaned and ate a few and the others we use for crab/rockfish bait. The Humbolts only live one year and grow up to 60lbs we're told in that one year. The eat their body weight in food every day. We took these on squid jigs at 900' down. You can actually bring the school up into a frenzy on a cloudy day. Awesome creatures, flash white to red and pulse. It's truely one of the most amazing animals I've seen with my own eyes. God help you though it you fall in. They have been known to hunt in packs like wolves and they have killed people. The Mexican's call them "Red Diablo"

uploadded a few more picts,
the one spiny fish is a 9.5lb Copper, estimated to be 50yrs old. The other is a Green Sturgeon, rare in our waters. Thought you guys would enjoy seeing a few exotics from our area.

I remember a documentry on Discovery talking about giant squid and they mentioned that the humbolt was a big squid, but ot in comparison to the real giant squid.

steve - gr8 pics, cant wait to go fishing with ya...

i gotta setup a native tank first thou to house that squid! LOL

The first one is a 9.5lb 21" Copper Rockfish. I'd estimate it to be around 50yrs old. Caught him shallow abound 70' down. Personally I like the NorCal Rockfish, very slow growing fish. A resource we must protect. No overharvesting should be practiced. But I for one can say that I only keep fish that I eat, so I have "0" bi-catch. But look into the Rockfish, very very intresting species. There are 43 sub-types in our waters, and they cross breed sometimes making hybrids.

wow great pictures of real sea monsters and also great information about them.. that was a real treat!
