This is by far my favourate species of American cichlid, they have everything, looks, attitude, a very healthy appetite etc. I've kept them in the past, but not for about a year.
About a month ago i aquired a 40g and decided i had to get another. So i went browsing in an Lfs and picked up a .5" Carpinte. Unfortunately, that little guy had a tough and short lived life. After a week he came down with a bout of Ich, i managed to clear that up but ended up loosing him to Bloat.
So later that week i went do a diifferent Lfs and picked up another. I did my best to determine the males from females (You know, the black on the dorsal, steeper forehead etc.), picked out the best looker of what i suspected to be the males. And i must say i'm entirely happy with him.
As stated, he's housed in a 40g (Dimensions of 36" x 14" x 18") with three Clown loaches. His diet consists of crushed pellet, beefheart, Brine and Mysis shrimps, Blood and Eathworms, Krill and the odd bit of Zucini i feed the Loaches.
Here's some pics.
