my 2 inch peacock was holding eggs a few weeks ago - her first time. I waited one week and then put her in my 20 with my 2 juvenile fronts. she held the eggs for about 4 days and then spit them. Is this normal for a peacock this young to be unsuccessful. Now she pays no attention to the male. how long is normal until she will be ready again?

Ok maybe 2 1/2 inches - I was very suprised, but I saw her and the male going at it and watched her picking up the eggs.

i was certainly surprised to with th 2" i had 3" that bore eggs and its normal that they spit out the eggs either to transfer their hatchlings to a different location of the tank or to portect it from any threat, but beware, coz when they think their eggs are in danger they eat it up. ;)

and also just give it a couple of weeks before her behaviour towards the male changes... probably a months or so.. :)

I never remove females from the tank. I have seen some pretty small fish spawn, sometimes as many as 30 eggs. These tend to be much smaller though. Next time try waiting 10 long days then pull the fry. Moving females has mixed results and can often end in loss of fry. "I hate losing fry!" any kind of fry.

I would also suggest not pulling her as early. If you're wanting to raise the fry, why put her in a tank with fronts? Won't they just eat the fry when she spits? (I guess unless the fronts are really, really small...)

OK she's holding again. I would say she's about 2 1/2 inches. the fronts in the tank are about 1 inch - not a threat to her.
