Young synos for feeders?

while they seem to form part of the diet in the wild,There are better choices of foods for captive polypterids also of concern ore the dorsal and petcoral spines-Anne

Ok, thanks! they were like 5 cents each, but I won't chance it.
 
i definitely would not when i bought my syno cat he popped 3 bags and had to be brought home in a thick plastic container because of the sharp spines

How big was he? these are really small about 5cm TL.

You are right mate, baby FH are easy to get, but I was trying for something from their natural diet. I feed African clawed frogs as well from time to time.
 
Synodontis have the ability to lock their pectoral and dorsal spine in place when threatened, making it very hard for anyone else to swallow them. If you've ever been nailed by a synodontis, trying to get them out of the net, you won't soon forget. It's painful!:eek:
