Your Betta breeding methods

I'm thinking of trying to breed bettas for my 4th time. I haven't got fry yet. I'm hoping you can tell me your methods from conditioning the fish to the tank setup and caring for fry.

I actually thought it would be the opposite as you would find that the male plakat or just the fighter line would have more agression. Do you think I would be fine breeding quality pet store bettas as I don't have any real goal on what to get at this time. I know big Al's is the store I would go to that sell quality males. Not sure on females though

Which would you guys think be better. Breeding hm to hm to create some nice halfmoons or breeding a pl to a hm to create a nice show quality plakat after a few generations.
