so right now in my 220 i have a breeding pair of ~7-9 " jags, a m/f Freddy that are both 4-5" and a 4.5" shortbody FH.
Now that the jags have eggs they are slightly more territorial but dont even mouth anyone who gets close. And ive had this male freddy for about a month now, It has been extremely shy but the last couple days has just decided to be a huge ass to my FH (dominance thing im guessing although theres tons of space for everyone still) and to my jags. While they are sitting there he will go into the nest and just start eating as many eggs as he can while they try to get rid of him, then after getting put in his place he goes after the FH for a minute and back to the jags.
Anyway i have some pictures of the guilty bastard in question but he is hard to capture.

Anyone else?

Cichlids are funny like that, and ornery...but thats not a friedrichsthalii.

Maybe Im confused and the fish in the bottom pic on the right isnt what youre calling a friedrichsthalii?

Heres a male freddi, pic courtesy of AquaMojo

my male firemouth was the biggest a**hole ever. He was the most peaceful thing for about a year. Then, after his first spawning, he wouldn't leave anyone alone--my GT, my cons, my gourami, even HIS mate. Finally had to get rid of him and now his wife is in the herem with Bruce, my stud con.

he was sold to me as a freddy from a pretty good shop with a female. the female looked right but i have been kind of thinking the same thing about the colors and shape for a while now. figured he would just elongate and start to color right as he ages.
Dont see many young freddies to compare

Mine would have to be my angelfish. That is why I named him Bully. He bulled till dead 6 other angelfish that was raised with him. He is three years old now and living with some danios and bn pleco babies in my 29 gallon tank.
Old picture the rainbows are in the oscar tank now.

angels are cool. I had one that i bought as a feeder ( my old cray had a thing for them?) and it lived for a couple months to become my favorite fish i owned at the time. Only one who would attack the python during water changes and sit at the edge of the tank waiting for food.
