I need to know about anyone's experience with HITH and HLLE. If you have ever experienced this disease please let me know about it.

Things I need to know about:
-Species of fish
-symptoms (wide shallow pits, narrow deep pits, discharge, locations on the body)
-care before it happened (exact diet, carbon in the filter?, nitrate concentration)
-treatments attempted, which worked, which did not
-final result

If you don't know all of this that is fine, I need all the information and cases I can get.

I did this before and wrote an article on it, it is in my blog.

I am trying to expand and improve my article on HITH and HLLE. There is so much bad information out there and people constantly make erroneous assumptions about this, which leads to all the debate and continued misunderstanding. I have found some decent articles, but none that truly seem to represent the reality of the situation.

The more cases I can get, the more accurate the article can be. This can be extremely helpful in advancing our understanding of this disease (what seems to be one disease and one condition/syndrome).

If you click on personal blog the link to it is now there.

There are really at least two different diseases/conditions here. If it is what I call HITH (parasitic) then metronidazole should be all the is needed (perhaps along with general improvements in care). If it is HLLE (non-parasitic) then it is a lot more challenging. With HLLE there are multiple possible causes including diet, water quality, the use of carbon, etc. One or more of these may need to be changed and even then results vary.

Any questions, comments, etc. (such as: 'I heard the carbon one was BS' for example) please post.

Are you dealing with it right now?
