I have gotten some good suggestions the past week or so about LED lights. I was going to go with the AquaTrader's light but am worried about coverage. I have decided to raise my budget to around $250 for a 48" light. I know that is still limiting but...

I would like to hear about and see pictures (if possible) of your recommended set-up and brand. Right now I am looking at Marineland Double Bright 36-48. And maybe raising it off the water about 6 inches to eliminate the dark edges. But it has some drawbacks as well, ie.. the "no seperate moonlight plug etc.."

I would like to get as much info as possible before buying. When I used to keep aquariums I only used a basic strip light that came with the tank. I would like to have a tank with a little "nice!" to the lighting if I can afford it.

Thanks, Elwood.

the "beamswork" led lights from aquatraders are plenty bright. I 2x 48" strips on my 360G 8x3x2 , x2 36" strips on my 270 6x3x2, a single 48" strip on my 120G 4x2x2, and a single 24" strip on my 90G hexagon. I've had them for years, there is no question on reliability and the price cant be beat....

I will never buy lights again. They charge outrageous prices for the led stuff...atleast if you are even halfway diy handy. You can buy completely preassembled and waterproof light strips that are fully adjustable by remote for <$40. Just mount in a piece of aluminum channel or don't. If you need more light you just use a higher led density or you run several strips side by side.

i just won one of these going to play around with it on my 40g that's currently lit by a cfl

i prefer diy led. i cool white cree xm-l2 leds and drivers from rapidled and mount them on aluminum u-channel then hang it above the tank. i have three finnex led beam but they're not as bright and as well spread as the cree.

i would highly recommend some leds that has colored leds. if u go cheap and go with all white leds they will wash out the colors of ur fish. making them look dull. or get some kessil tuna sun the 160 model. lil pricey but they are high quality leds and have nice shimmering effect. heard nothing but good reviews for them. other leds seem to not last to long after a year. but if u dont care about the colors of your fish just go with some cheap ebay leds.
