This weekend, we'll be setting up a 46 gallon bow front tank. I am transferring the following fish from a smaller tank to this tank:

2 blood parrot cichlids
1 rainbow shark
3 golden gouramis

They are all sharing a tank now and get along fine. The gouramis chase each other, but no species shows aggressive or negative tendancies towards another.

What else would you recommend for this tank? Maybe a small schooling group for the top of the tank?

All opinions welcome. And thanks!

Me personally would add a school of neons and make it a planted tank. Add some driftwood that makes naturl hiding spots for the blood parrots and they will appreciate it. I have heard some people say blood parrots dig up the gravel a lot which is not good for planted tank, but I got one free when I bought a tank off craigslist with nowhere to put him. He ended up in my planted tank full of neons and has done great and not dug in the substrate at all. Really ended up liking him in there.

Or maybe roseline shark (red line barb or whatever name you want to give it). Would go nice with the rainbow shark but be active higher in the aquarium. Not really at the top of the aquarium from my experience but they school in middle regions in the tank I have them in. You want a school of them though and a 46 gallon might not be big enough to have several of them in there.

Thank you for your response.

It will not be a planted tank, because I do not do well with planted tanks. Maybe someday. I do have real driftwood, "safe" rocks that I gathered from the river near me a few years ago (for tank use) and artificial plants. I have an artificial tree stump in there that the BPs have adopted as their own.

I'm thinking zebra danios as a dither fish because I've had them in the past and really enjoyed them. Tetras are one of my faves but I'm not a neon fan. I have cardinals in my other tank, so that fills that need. Still thinking.... :)

I'm not sure I understand your post.

I am trying to see what would make a good community with my rainbow shark, my blood parrots and my golden gouramis.
