First, I wanted to know what you thought about this piece of scenery I suspended from the top of the tank with a piece of fishing line. Do you think the fishing line could hurt the fish? Was this a good idea bad idea?

Second, I want to know what you think of this betta tank. I am seriously thinking about returning it to walmart and getting something a bit better. It's little light bulb mixed with the bubbles from the filter make a really cool look but it's a very small tank and it's filtration system doesn't look like it does much of anything besides looking cool.

If you do return the tank, I would just buy a 2.5 gallon glass tank and a small in-tank filter. The pre-setup tanks are a rip off and almost always have inadequate filtration. And no, I don't think the fishing line will harm your fish.

I'd get rid of it. I personally do not like these little tanks at all. IF you kept it for a betta, I would look for a mini heater and change out that water often.

I decided to try and suspend this bell aquarium scenery. It's normally just sitting on the bottom of my 40g but since it had a loop at the top, I decided to hang it to see how it would look and if the fish would interact with it. It's been a few hours and there's already little pieces of stuff stuck to the fishing line and the fish aren't really interacting with it. I think I'm gonna take it out of my 35g hex and also return that betta tank for a real tank. My neighbor is giving me their 10g glass tank and depending on it's condition, I may just turn it into a planted tank for the betta. Who knows. I guess for the most part you all don't like the bell or the tank?

I agree, return the tank. If you're set on anything under 10Gals I personally like the marineland line of mini-tanks. the filters are at least adequete ( my husband has his betta, and some ghost shrimp, and an apple snail in a 5 gal hex). Though you can usually spend the same amount and get a decent 10 gal start-up set. I'de do a 10 gallon personally for the betta, toss a few tetras in as tank mates and have a nice lil' system going. As for the 40, It looks great so far. It looks like your "newer" to live plants, but I see what you're trying to accomplish, live plants aren't the easiest to work with. Don't be afraid to experiment abit. As for the fishing line, it isn't harmful in the least bit unless you leave a tangle in the tank for fish to get caught-up in. Elodea, and Java moss are great starter plants, and once it grows-out abit You'll deffinately get an underwater roman jungle ruins theme to be proud of.

Thanks for the input. I am very new to live plants which is why I bought java moss and anacharis since they are pretty easy to take care of. I do want to add more tall plants though so I'll look into those. I am returning the small tank and going with a 10 gallon
