Im looking for some new tangs for my tank. i got fronts, leleupi, julies: marlieri and ornatus, black calvus, brevis and caudopunctus. we got tretocephalus, brichardi, fasciatus and syno catfish at work. ive been looking hard at those but they are either ugly or too mean. what does everyone else have in their tang tanks? anyone think that a brichardi would be ok in my tank. i dont want to get one and have to fish it out of a 150

I thought at first, sure why not, but they're like cons of the Tanganyikan world. Brichardi hybrids do make the rounds and one of the most recent that I've seen are brichardi x leleupi hybrids, which interestingly enough could pass for pulcher "Daffodils". :(
If the brichardi and the rest of the neolamps, lamps and julies were same-sex there wouldn't be a problem but they're not exactly easy fish to sex, even by venting, much less visually.

On our end we don't have really big tanks dedicated to Tangs, yet. Our Tang tanks are all 60gls and under. Between the boyfriend and I (mostly the boyfriend lol) we have Alto. comp, Alto. calvus, Cyp. leptosoma "Utinta", Cyp. microlepidotus "Kigoma", Cyp. "sp. Leptosoma Jumbo Cape Nangu", Haplotaxodon microlepis, Greenwoodochromis chrystyi, Lamp. brevis, Lamp. ocellatus, Lamp. signatus, Lepidio. boulengeri, Neolamp. brichardi, N. caudopunctatus, N. furcifer "Zambia", N. leloupi, N. pulcher "Daffodil", Telmat. vittatus, Syno. lucipinnis and Syno. multipunctatus (probably forgetting some).
They're split into a 60, two 50's, a 40, three 20's and two 10's. The smaller tanks are breeders or grow-outs, the 40 is a species for the Telmats, one of the 50's is a holding tank without substrate or real territories that the fish can set themselves up in and fight over (this tank probably has the highest number and most diverse group of Tangs but is generally quite peaceful), one of the 50's holds the Haplotaxodons and the 60 is a decorated community set-up.
We're waiting to move so we can get the Haplotaxodons and Jumbo's into a 100+gl tank.

In our keeping we've found it's just better not to overstock with Tangs and not keep fish together that closely resemble each other or occupy the same niche, even if there's only one of each.
Either they fight and one dominates the other, possibly killing the competition, or they pair up and make life hell for anyone who they feel are intruding on them. Not all fish are the same though so in any case one decides to go ahead and try we always suggest to have a back-up plan. :)

wow, you got quite a stocklist. care to post pics of the leptosoma. ive always liked them. but cant find them in TN

I haven't any pics of the Micros. And our 'sp. jumbo' are still juvies. Awaiting a move. :)

Lol here's my massive Tang stocklist: N. cylindricus, N. brichardi, and A. compressiceps 'Kasakalawe'.

Hey! you gotta start somewhere! cylindricus are amazing looking when adults. how big is yours

I have a breeding pair, and I currently have about 50 newborns. Besides, that's really all I want to keep for Tangs. With 20 or so tanks, I figure three dedicated to Tangs works for me :)

I got my fave cyp shot :D

and I even managed to find one of the micros when they were young

not really much to look at in the photo but in person (and with a little age) the color is fantastic.

I'll round it out with a couple of Miles' faves. Haplotaxodon trifasciata (I posted "H. microlepis" in the above post, which is what they were sold as, but I'm not quite sure why).

I like what a little time to settle in did for these guys. Their pics really don't do them justice at all.
