Quarantine Tank
What do you think of attempting to make a nocturnal fish into more of a day time fish? Think its wrong? Does some damage? No issue if the fish is healthy?

Also how would you go about doing this? Only feed during the day? Literally wake the fish up at night?

Just want to know what people think....

i think a lot of people already do that, some are not even aware of it.. lol

ur light cycle would play big role in all of it.

i don't think its ethically wrong but it sure is unnatural.

My catfish I'm assuming doesn't want the lights on at night, but I'm not turning them off just for him. It's a fish eat fish eat world and he's the only "night" fish, so just gotta deal with it.

I think most fish get used to it somewhat. It's not exactly good for them but so isn't my water bill for me. They live in my tank, they have to sacrifice to a point. Enough talking, I'll let others make fools of themselves now.

I think there are some fish that you will never be able to turn into day time fish. Personally, I don't force any of my fish to become day time fish. I feed in the morning and I feed at night. I leave the lights off 80% of the time though. Some of my Polys and BGK will come out to eat in the morning. It's just up to them if they're hungry enough. However, my Cats NEVER come out during light.

so.. is it like having supper instead of lunch??why not

It might work.....i mean sure you can leave the lights on and eventually.. your fishes have to respond to the environment it lives..
But some fish just never respond to it....

Most of my tanks are in a green house.. in my backyard.. so theres enough light during the day time that shines through...

I mostly keep plecos.. who are night time fish.. and a few species have adapted to the day time activity... but only a few.. Most are hiding under woods or caves..

So it can be done.... on selective fish...

So what fish do you guys think it can be done with?

Example - Knife fish? Plecos? Certain catfish? etc?

i dunno...polypts are mostly nocturnal and my senegal doesnt seem to care cuz hes out swimming all day. guess it depends on the fish, im sure some adapt better than others.

I just got a RCK and it would swim around in the daytime, until it found a hiding spot. Now I never see it, the only thing I have been told to do is get moon light.
