Your typical S. Fryeri? Fish ID

Here are two "electric blue Ahli's" I recently bought from PS. Only difference is ones total lack of resemblance to the usual Ahli's I buy from PetSmart. This first picture is what the "Ahli's from PS have always looked like. Blue, with a defined orange anal fin and maybe some orange on top dorsal. These next couple of pictures are of another one I bought that has all types of yellow barring through his caudal, dorsal and anal fins and also a lot darker than the usual bright blues. Probably the same fish but I know they are sometimes shipped under the wrong name. Was just wondering if I might have gotten a little something better by the mislabeling on their part. Thx again

This is just my opinion....but I think PS breeds there own fish...and I feel that they have very poor strains. I have never seen a healthy looking African strain anytime I have gone there. I have bought from them in the past...but I will not do so anymore. I think the bottom fish is a PS breed that they call Malawi Cyrosontus (something like that) its a hybrid that they created just to sell in their stores. Def not a S. Frieri

the petsmart in savannah has the same fish. i bought one a few years ago and its a nice blue, red anal fin and a nice white blaze. the one i seen in the store a week or so ago looks like the second picture you posted, less color, with alot of yellow in it. maybe all petsmarts get there fish from the same breeder and some how they got a bad strain or bunch of hybrids in the group they have in stores now.

yeah, not a typical ahli....most don't have that yellow color, they have a red or orange anal fin with only hints of yellow, not to say that yours isn't a different color strain, but the face and tail remind me of a peacock.

the first looks more like it, but i don't know about that second one...

yea bought this from PS anyway. heres the one I bought today and he's .lookin nice. Still has a little yellow.... but pretty.

i think he's just a baby and hasn't gotten his full color... i've noticed that many of my africans that have metallic blue as adults, get the blue after all the other colors, with the exception of the face...
