G'day.

Following on from Hao's thread, 'What's your favourite?', I thought we could do a thread on what would be your ultimate arowana community.

Try to follow this layout.

Tank Size

Filteration and Lighting

Tank Set-up and Decor

Arowanas

Tankmates
(if needed)

Tank Size: 8'x3'x4'H (720g) with Starphire Glass.

Filtration: Ultima 4000, with 120g sump/refugium heavily planted for nitrate removal.

Lighting: To be determined.

Tank setup/decor: bare black bottom, no background (as a room divider), Anubias Barteri attached to driftwood.

Arowanas: 5 Red, 1 Golden OR 5 Golden, 1 Red to have one of them stand out.

Tankmates: None.
 
Tank Size - 15' x 5' x 3.5' starphire glass

Filteration and Lighting - Large sump for bio and a large sand filter for mechanical. A bit of natural lighting through windows, and metal halides.

Tank Set-up and Decor Black background, silver sand, large plants attached to driftwood, and huge pieces of wood coming down from above.

Arowanas - Blue Base Golden Crossback x 1, bluebase HBRTG x 1, VFSR x 1, Platinum Crossback x 1, Panda Blue x 1, HB Super Red, 2 x RTG, 1 x Black Arowana, 1 x Albino Silver, 1 x Snow Silver Arowana.

Tankmates - Catfish, Cichla, SACA cichlids.
 
96x36x30" 450g.

sump and two canisters. two 400 watt metal halide

large center piece driftwood, natural gravel/sand mix lightly planted(fake)

2 silver aros, 1 black aro

G. altifroms, G. brasilines, rotkeil severums, bristlenose plecos, black ghost knife, corydoras cats and a large school of tetras.





 
Its easy to spot the people who have never owned a big tank and actually had to pay for the power/water bill when this kinda thread rolls round. ;)

TBH I don't know if I'd ever want an enormous tank (talking 1000g+) unless I was mega rich and could have it set up to be almost maintenance free. My dream aro comm would be half a dozen blacks in a 600g amazon biotope with Uaru fernandezyepezi and some geophagus. I think a 600g would be plenty big enough for the kind of fish I want, and anything much bigger is going to require too much work/money.

my favourite tankmate for my aro is another aro.:D Com tank is always in my mind.
