Yucky Black Gunk In Canister

I just got thru cleaning my canisters. i I was so digusted by the layer of black gunk at the bottom tray. Do you guys get grossed out by fish gunk? Is there a better alternative than cleaning canisters? I only clean two times a year. This one was over due for 8 months.

Haha nice! I'm kinda used to it now
You could always use a pond canister with a backwash function if you don't mind the noise!
Or if you go with an acrylic sump, use a valved drain where the gunk accumulates.

thats is true. While I was cleaning I was thinking of the show Dirty Jobs with all the poops. Lol

thats not entirely true. I used a prefilter sponge on the intake which I clean weekly. I think I am feeding my fish too much. I will reduce feeding to once every two days.
