So, i've had my 55 gal brackish for almost 6 months, it started off as a freshwater community/angel tank until i rescued a lionfish and a snowflake eel- (g.tile) from my lfs and started building up my salinity. I went very slow, about .001 a week. My 3 angels 2 platys my fiddler and my clawed frog and a couple other small randoms all adapted fine. Thats with the eel of course, then i added the lionfish, and funny some of my fish started to dissapear.
Wierd huh?- lol well i had them on a diet of either guppies or rosy's twice a week. and wasnt too worried about a couple platys, but then one day my angels dissapeared. Dang, talk about an expensive lunch. So i started doing some research about what would be better tankmates for them. So shortly after this i noticed my frog missing- oh well and then the fiddler - was pretty brutal seeing all that remained of him- his large claw, laying next to my rockfish one morning. yup he's a monster alright. So i decided to add a couple of needle nose gar. they stay towards the top- they were plenty big enough, one was 7 inch the other 8. cool- so i thought about a month after buying them one just dissappears. no way , my rockfish is maybe 9 inch, no way he could take out a gar. right? and the eel? i dunno- so me and the wife are watchin a movie in the dark last night - ooohh lol ,and we hear this thud and splash from the tank- turn on the lights and the eel has a gar crosswise in his mouth- was insane to watch the gar put up a great fight and the eel gave up for i bit. but was back a minute later and polished him off quick. INSANE, so now i need some help - what else can i put in this tank? rosy's are cheap but i cant afford these expensive snacks for too much longer, dont wanna just keep overfeeding them so they dont eat tankmates- just sounds unhealthy. - sorry bout the horribly long story but let me know if you have any ideas for me.

angels and clawed frogs in particular should not be living in brackish water. You should move them out of there before you continue to raise the salinity. Don't forget the crab is inappropriate for the tank if you have preds like G. tile in there, and without a land area for the crab.

Pics? Ive wanted a snowflake and lion for a while. And I dont think ANY other tnakmates will survive. i have heard that both will eat whatever they can, so you are lucky to have them together. Maybe big archers? Or some bigger scats? Just fish physically too big to be aa problem? (def not a brackish expert just what i have heard so take this with a grain of salt) <------grain of salt brackish pun

Guess someone didnt read the whole story, Angels, crab and frog dont need to move out-- they've already been digested. But whats a few casualties on the road to happiness? Will try to get some pics tonight, my eels still kinda lurking after eating the 2 gar last week, will go for pic when i see him out. Was thinking of a scat or two but dont know if they will be okay in my 55- or possibly another snowflake. If anyone knows where to find larger scats or archers in central texas please let me know

Yeah so it looks like i'm just going to leave my two guys in there alone. Tank seems awful lonely, but i guess thats fine - as long as my monsters are happy then i'm happy. i think - oh well now to get started on my 35 gallon - any ideas for me - nothing to hard cause wife will have to handle it when i deploy again.

A lot of CA cichlids can handle brackish. Every eel I tried to keep ended up on the floor. They will get out if the smallest of openings.

Will look into the ciclids - was worried because i know many fish will live in brackish for a while but i dont want them too have to adapt, i want them as natural as possible. but will still look into it- i like ciclids ;)
