Hi,
Q: how big/wee and therefore vulnerable are zamora cat eggs?
Online videos suggest they're like salt-grains, but not sure if I was looking at the right thing.
I've got a crew of 5 all erring towards adult, what looks like four girls & a boy.
They're in a 50Gal guppy-swordtail & snail breeder tank, parked/piled in the bamboo. I don't see them eat - I barely see them a'tall - but they're fat when our schedules do overlap. The girls are larger & seem notably fatter than the boy.
So the question is, if they do spawn, will I lose said spawn to swordtail, mystery & MTS predation?
This is about curious & a bit of cool. Breeding zamora's not a life goal & there's no market for them around here (importer's still trying to unload) and these are young'ish, so won't look to replace for another decade (touch-wood). I may keep adding to this crew as the sellers get annoyed & the price comes down, though - these cats are quite cool.
Follow-up query would be the planned relocating clown-loaches to this tank where they'll almost certainly hoover any spawn, or wait a few more weeks/short-months for the arowana's relocation and go into the Hunn'id?
Follow-up to that: Do zamora benefit from "dither" re. comfort & activity (aside from other zamora & swordtails, apparently)? They were certainly less day-shy when they shared QT with the silver-dollars, so I'm hoping they will lighten-up with loaches & a pretty low-key RTS.
NB: Admins, please feel free to remove this query to the Catfish forum/list.
