Tank is a freshwater 75 gallon planted tank. Stocked with 2 large marble angels a pinot angel, zebra angel, some random tetras diamond and fancy fins, a lazy clown pleco that i never see and pictus catfish. Woke up about 2 weeks ago and the zebra angel looked to have had his eye bit out or something and a wound on his opposite side beside his gill. Added some pimafix for a couple of days. White fuzzy stuff covered his eye after a few days. Did several pwc kept getting worse. Got furan 2 and treated entire tank no result til this morning.(my hospital tank has been repurposed As a nursery for elec. Blue acara fry) all fuzz is gone and eye looks like it did in the beginning. Do i run another full course of treatment? Water tests ammo=0 nitrates=.25 nitrites =0, ph 6.5. Water temp 80
1st pic is after fuzz grew. 2nd and 3rd are 1st day of problem. My lfs is closing and he told me there prob is no hope but he also is a sw guy not fw. I am encourage since i finally see some sort or progress. Thoughts? Advice? Got this tank and fish from craigslist. It was filthy 3 months ago. Changed out nasty sand that had old screws and coins in it! ($1.86 total) added plants. Changed their old filters to a filstar cannister large. Everything was running well until this issue. All other fish seem happy. Angel wont eat so i have been dropping fry food in his path and he sucks it in without choice then swims away. He did try to eat fluval ciclid pellet today finally.

The gill plate/operculum hole isn't a wound, it's a deformity. Probably genetic, though may also be attributed to low water quality. I would forgo another dose, though I admit I don't have experience with it. But at this rate, the eye will either fall out or heal over.

I appreciate the info but if i do weekly wc, with RO water and have always done this and all parameters test well how do i get poor water quality? This confuses me. Also did you look at the 3rd pic. The red spot was not there before. It appeared overnight? Still confused

Do u know what ur gh and kh numbers? Do u replace the minerals removed out of the r/o water?

Would suggest soaking food in some garlic to stimulate some appetite.

No i have never tested that. I do alternate conditioned tap water with the ro with flourite black substrate and a lot of different plants. The water is fresh not brackish so... i need to test for this?Apologies i got into this about a year ago and so far this is my first issue. What do i use to replace minerals? My other fw tanks are all doing amazing. I did, however, lose a couple of ghost shrimp that i had put into that tank but found out angels find them as a tasty snack a little too late. Oops.

Would suggest to test and see where ur running. I believe the R/o completely strips the nutrients for fish to regulate. Not sure where ur running. Stressed fish placed in water w/o nutrients can lead to reduced immunity. A scrape or nick can result in infections and eventual death.

Cant reply in regards to planted tanks and substrates so much. Not something i know of much. Maybe some other members can chime in.
