Zebra Chichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Common names vary from place to place, know any other name the fish might go by? or scientific name perhaps?
Convicts? Fronosa? Buttikoferi?

Not necessarily...anything with stripes is often called a Zebra cichlid...convicts are often referred to as Zebra convicts or something similiar. So, which exact fish are we talking about?

There's a whole complex of mbuna known as "Zebra cichlids", which is why they were switched from Pseudotropheus to Maylandia/Metriaclima.
He's in the "african cichlids" board asking about zebras so hopefully cons wouldn' be an issue.
Butti's (Tilapia buttikoferi) are a whole other story. Big, nasty, tilapiine.
Which is it? We can go on from there. ;)

HiOscar Guy. Need a little more information before any of us can be of any form of help! If you have a pic then please post as this will help a great deal. There is a wide variety of mbuna zebra's. :naughty:   :clap

if you are talking about the kenyi or the lombardoi then you may be best with a species tank. They are about the most agressive mbuna and the ones I have dominate their respective tanks. Best to go with one male and a group of females. Males will usually, but not always be yellow and the females blue. Juvenile males will also be blue, they are not particularly easy to sex. If you are looking for a mixed tank of Africans and not trying to breed, then you may want to consider more docile mbuna.
