Well I'm about to have some Zebra Danio fry, and have a science fair coming up. I was wondering what you guys thought of me splitting my 55 gallon tank into 45 gallons and 10 gallons and the 10 gallon section into 2 5 gallons sections. The 45 gallon section will hold my regular stock. The 2 5g sections will each have 5 fry. One section will be fed regular liqud fryfood. And the other section will recieve a variety of food. And I'll see which fry grow faster, by getting an average measurement of the 5 fry in each section, I'll find out which grow faster.

What do you guys think?

Any suggestions or modifications before the fry hatch?

I suggest a larger sample. Having only 10 data points will not give any answers to the experiment at hand.
How much larger are you thinking?

Zebra danios don't grow very quickly, it may take quite a while to be able to tell for sure whether one batch grew more than the other (although I've never had fry before, so I'm not sure of their growth rate when they're that young).

My data is due Nov.15, do you think that's enough time?

More sample points, the better.
I would say minimum 100 trials....here on in known as N.

Is this for elementary, middle school or high school or university, etc?
I'll see how I high I can go without crowding up my other fish.

High School

Can you get a cheap second hand tank?

then again, for high school they may not care about how large your sample size is.
A 55 gallon tank is enough for my parents lol. And I'm not pushing my luck. :]
