Zebra Plecos

i am just wondering what is the longest any one has ever owned one?... i think they could be a good choice with Discus

15ish years i guess Hans Georg Every had an article telling his original fish from 1991 were still around (and were already an estimated 1-2 years old) and they were still breeding then apparently! I would say they should live at least that long, with optimum conditions. We at MFK are famous for never overstocking. LOL

Zebras are ok with discus, however the two are both commonly desired fish for breeding purposes, and the breeding conditions are slightly different. Zebras are a much warmer temperature than most any other fish. Zebras and discus can live together well, but the discus will be sweating a little. I have had mine now for around 4 months.

We've had 4 at work for 2 1/2 years and 3 of them were in a customers tank for over 4 years.

I've kept and bred both and, actually, I'd have to say that h. zebra would prefer temps of 83ish with a good deal of DO and current (they go hand in hand), while discus like it even warmer and abhor rapid water movement.

81 is the lowest i've heard for spawning, but i'm sure someone has probably managed lower. For generally its always like COL says, 83 give or take a couple

thanks .. i know i don't plan on breeding the Zebra as of yet ..i do breed Discus..but the pair has the own tank. if i am lucky enough to get another pair i will do the same for them, the tank i want to keep him in is more just a community tank with only Discus and i though a Zebra would be a nice add.. ..

I imagine it would be, small and probably wouldnt scare the discus much.

on that tank i may try it just shaking my head at the price if i loose him ..i am not worried about the Discus getting Scared they been there a while if i ever get a few more pair of breeding discus and i even can breed Zebras .. I'll tank the whole Pleco forum out to OUTBACK for dinner after i sell em all lol
the other type of plecos i was referring to in the other thread Discus Requirements was for a different tank i was thinking a golden nugget for that one thank for brining my eye to the sticky on that one davo
