Hi'

I'm thinking of getting a Zebra shovelnose and was wondering if it would be fine for life in a 72"x30"x30" ? if so has anyone kept them with Tropical gar's or Asian Arowana's before?

Mine is with my rtg and dat and polys etc and hes fine,in fact he just barges the big polys out the way to get to food lol
What size you getting and how much if you dont mind me asking,as ive recently done the browsing and buying of one.

steve

The only places i've seen them for sale is Wildwoods which is something like £450 and Tropical imports which is £250 which is 9". I got a couple of bichir's from there and my tire track eel and they were all actualy bigger than advertised.
I was thinking of dats but i think the tank might get crowded with a trio of gars and arowana taking the top end of the tank up

that tank size sounds perfect.
just look around, they do great with aros gars and dats. theres tons of people with them including the creator of the site.

my rtg killed my 17" gar within a week,i didnt have anywhere else to put it because he was bullying him so i was going to take him back to wharf but he didnt make it to the weekend,i think he was stressed to death sooner than injured, just a bit of my experience.
also if you try bracknell or reading branch of maidenhead aquatics i think they have some and they were cheaper than wildwoods for a 7 to 8 inch think they wanted 300

Thanks for the reply's :)
I'm starting to build the tank next weekend hopefully using plywood mainly with Acrylic viewing panel cant wait.

I have 2 Retic Ray's and a few bichir's that will be moving accross into the tank also. Although the rays are too small so wont be moving until they've beefed up to a decent size. I've read Zebra shovelnose's are good with rays and poly's so wasnt worried about them just needed to check about the arowana and gar. i'll try getting the gar's to a bigger size than the arowana when i put them in. Probs go with the Banjar Red Arowana as theyre relativly cheap.

As for the maidenhead aquatics my nearest one is like nearly 2 hours away and seems to sell mainly bred and butter fish.I did get me weeksii bichir from there though when they had it labelled as armoured bichir:)

Oh and seens as you're a UK fish keeper do you know of any decent places for arowana's ?

I dont know if the place i got mine from is still going i doubt it. It was anglo aquarium in essex, ask t1karmann he may know of people or places and there are some on ac but not sure how dubious they are.
Ordered my 2 congis from dan, should be here friday !!!
